Manway cutting system for tanks

IMCAR’s manway cutting system automates cutting operations required to create openings for tank accessories, including manways, doors, and sloping bottoms. Designed for tank manufacturing applications, the system reduces the manual operations traditionally required for these cuts while improving process repeatability and consistency.

Automated manway and tank cutting

The tank cutting system combines a rotary table that can be adapted to different shell diameters with a manipulator equipped with the cutting source.

Both units are managed through a numerical control system. The control receives the project in DXF format, converts the geometry into the required cut on the circular tank surface, and controls the working distance during the process.

This automated approach makes it possible to reproduce cutting operations consistently, reducing manual intervention and helping maintain constant quality from one part to the next.

The use of gas cutting allows subsequent production operations to begin without requiring the worked area to be cleaned first. Combined with automated positioning and numerical control, this helps streamline the overall tank manufacturing process.
